A Morphometric Study of Human Tubal Epithelium after Ligation

Abstract
The morphological study of human tubal epithelium after ligation was performed by light and electron microscope.
The results are as follows:
1. On the light microscopic findings, ligated tubal epithelium showed the similar characteristics as compared with the control group. Howerver, abnormalities of tubal mucosa including focal synechia and partial damage of epithelium were appeared in the long-term ligated groups.
2. On the electron microscopic findings, no alterations of ciliated and secretory cells consisting tubal epithelium were appeared, sepecially, functional structures as cilia and microvilli showed the normal state. Only in the long-term ligated groups, lipid droplet, glycogen granules and lysosomes increased in cytoplasm.
3. The morphological changes of which we described, increased in incidence the longer the time after ligation, but the shorter interval groups, the weaker changes of ultrastructure were observed.
In conclusion, the ultrastructural changes after ligation were minimal, so it is suggested that there would be no problems in reversal operation after tubal ligation.
